Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.


Blue Sky Conference Track at ACM SIGSPATIAL 2019

Blue Sky ideas logoThe Computing Community Consortium (CCC) recently sponsored a Blue Sky Ideas Conference Track at the 27th ACM SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems, November 5- November 8, 2019 in Chicago, IL.

The purpose was to bring together researchers, developers, users, and practitioners in relation to novel systems based on geo-spatial data and knowledge, and fostering interdisciplinary discussions and research in all aspects of geographic information systems.

The goal of this track was to present visionary ideas at the conference.

First Place- Revolutionizing Tree Management via Innovative Spatial Techniques
Yiqun Xie, Shashi Shekhar, Richard Feiock, and Joseph Knight

Second Place- Towards Geocoding Spatial Expressions (Vision Paper)
Hussein Al-Olimat, Valerie Shalin, Krishnaprasad Thirunarayan, and Joy Prakash Sain

CCC provides travel awards to authors of the winning papers. We encourage you to apply for a Blue Sky Ideas track at your conference!

Requests need only include a brief description of the conference and a proposed list of program committee members for the track.
