Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

Trump Administration Takes Action to Improve Federal Data and Models for Artificial Intelligence R&D

Recently, the Trump Administration continued efforts to advance American leadership in artificial intelligence (AI) with the announcement of a Request for Information (RFI) to improve Federal data and models for AI research and development (R&D) and testing. As called for by President Trump’s national AI strategy the American AI Initiative, the RFI invites the public, the research community, and the private sector to identify improvements to Federal data and models needed to accelerate innovative, trustworthy AI.

“The Trump Administration understands that unleashing Federal data and models is critical to drive top-notch AI research and promote technological breakthroughs and competitiveness. Importantly, as the RFI and the American AI Initiative reflect, we also take seriously the need to balance access to data and maintaining the civil liberty and privacy protections Americans expect. This RFI represents yet another step forward in the American AI Initiative to accelerate our leadership and empower our innovators and the American people,” said Michael Kratsios, Deputy Assistant to the President for Technology Policy.

On Friday, June 21st, the White House released an update to the National Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Strategic Plan. It was informed by responses from another recent Request for Information. See the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) response here.
