Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

First announced at President Biden’s Summit for Democracy, the U.S./U.K. privacy-enhancing technologies prize challenges, are now open for registration. Co-sponsored by the National Institute for Standards and Technology and the National Science Foundation, and planned in coordination with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and counterparts in the United Kingdom, the prize challenges seek to catalyze research to bring about solutions to financial crime and public health emergencies. CS for Social Good White Paper Competition

The Computing Community Consortium (CCC), in conjunction with Schmidt Futures, will sponsor and administer a white paper competition on the future of “CS for Social Good,” in order to harness CS to address societal challenges such as: Accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy; Reducing the inter-generational transmission of poverty; Feeding 10 billion people while reducing the environmental footprint of agriculture; Reducing the time and cost for a low-income worker to gain a skill that is a ticket to the middle class; Using data to support evidence-based policy while protecting privacy and security; Reducing health care costs while maintaining or improving health outcomes; and Improving K-12 student learning outcomes in core academic subjects […]

New NIH Prize Competition to Advance Open Science

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has partnered with London-based Wellcome Trust and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) to launch a global science competition for new products to advance “open science,” a movement to make scientific research data broadly accessible to the public. From the NIH news release: The volume of digital information generated by biomedical research often called “big data” is growing at a rapidly increasing pace.
