Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

DARPA Broad Agency Announcement- Machine Common Sense (MCS)

October 25th, 2018 / in Announcements, pipeline, policy, Research News / by Helen Wright

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) just released a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) on Machine Common Sense (MCS) with a December 18, 2018, response date. DARPA is soliciting innovative research proposals in the area of machine common sense to enable Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications to understand new situations, monitor the reasonableness of their actions, communicate more effectively with people, and transfer learning to new domains. Proposed research should investigate innovative approaches that enable revolutionary advances in science, devices, or systems. Machine common sense has long been a critical—but missing—component of AI. Recent advances in machine learning have resulted in exciting new capabilities, but machine reasoning remains narrow and highly specialized. Developers must carefully train or […]

Exploratory Advanced Research Program 2018 Broad Agency Announcement

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) issued a Presolicitation Notice for its 2018 Exploratory Advanced Research Program’s Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) with an anticipated posting date soon. Through the issuance of this BAA, FHWA anticipates sponsoring research addressing four topics: (1) Mobil Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs); (2) Video Analytics; (3) Artificial Realistic Data and (4) Supplementary or Alternative Materials for Highway Pavements and Structures. All responsible sources capable of satisfying the U.S. Government’s needs may submit proposals for evaluation. The presolicitation announcement is posted on the FedBizOpps Web Site here. Potential offerors and vendors are encouraged to register on www.fbo.gov to receive any further information regarding this announcement. The BAA will close […]

DARPA Broad Agency Announcement- Lifelong Learning Machines (L2M)

May 8th, 2017 / in Announcements, research horizons, Research News, robotics / by Helen Wright

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) just released a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) on Lifelong Learning Machines (L2M) with a June 21, 2017, response date. DARPA is soliciting highly innovative research proposals for the development of fundamentally new machine learning approaches that enable systems to learn continually as they operate and apply previous knowledge to novel situations. Current artificial intelligence (AI) systems only compute with what they have been programmed or trained for in advance; they have no ability to learn from data input during execution time, and cannot adapt on-line to changes they encounter in real environments. The goal of the Lifelong Learning Machines (L2M) program is to develop substantially more […]
