Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

  • Data SuperCluster (DSC) White Paper Solicitation
    • DSC is exploring various approaches to better coordinate a number of projects relevant to data governance/platform/exchange. As a result, it’s soliciting a white paper from nongovernmental organizations, universities and industry experts with the possibility of consideration for inclusion in a common framework/blueprint for data governance and exchange.
    • You’ll have 5 minutes to present your white paper during the GCTC Data meeting that will be held concurrently at the GCTC Tech Jam (tentatively scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon [U.S. Pacific Time] on June 21).
    • The submitted white papers will be available to attendees at the Tech Jam and Data platform meeting next month.

GCTC-SC3 Affiliated Events and Meetings

  • Smart Buildings Community Meeting at the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA)’s Network of the Future Conference June 5-8 in Plano, TX. TIA launched the Smart Buildings Program and Working Group in January to unite the communications infrastructure, real estate development, construction and government communities on the mission of creating a common understanding and pathway to developing what is known as smart buildings. In February, TIA joined in collaboration with NIST’s GCTC-SC3 to extend this work to interconnection and interoperability between buildings and municipalities. During this daylong workshop, the Smart Buildings Working Group will present and discuss the work accomplished thus far and its plans for pressing forward with next iterations.
  • Smart Building Calls—Seeking partners to set up Global Cities Team Challenge Smart Building action clusters. Based on discussion during the April 20 webinar, interest was expressed in forming GCTC Smart Building action clusters on interoperability, cybersecurity and privacy; health care; transportation; and energy. Please join us May 24 for the follow-up meetings you are interested in.
    • Transportation—Public and private transportation, connected and autonomous, applications and infrastructure  (1:30 to 2:30 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time )
    • Energy—Energy efficiency demand by IoT applications and devices, and network infrastructure, energy generation and energy micro-grids. (2:30 to 3:30  p.m. U.S. Eastern Time)
