Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

U.S. DOE’s $20M Funding Opportunity for Transportation Technology Integration

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Vehicle Technologies Office has announced a new funding opportunity. Concept papers are due May 29, 2018. The GCTC community may be especially interested in Topic 3, Technology Integration (up to $20 million). It reads as follows:

Technology integration brings together key stakeholders in partnerships that can provide data, modeling and proof-of-concept to inform early-stage research priorities and increase overall transportation system efficiency, including:

  • High-performance computing for transportation system optimization.
  • First/last mile solutions for people and/or goods movement.
  • System-level data for more energy-efficient, affordable mobility.
  • Fuel efficient platooning for improved and affordable goods movement.
  • Innovative models and technologies for multi-unit dwelling electric vehicle charging.
  • Open topicInnovative approaches to increase overall transportation system efficiency.

Ag & Rural SuperCluster (ARSC) to Host a Webinar to Update Its Progress

On May 17 the new GCTC Agriculture and Rural SuperCluster will host a webinar.  The supercluster will tackle important topics in rural communities, including connectivity (broadband) to support agriculture, healthcare, transportation, education, community life and other industries that support rural economic vitality and prosperity. The webinar will showcase some early action cluster projects in smart agriculture for plants and livestock, innovative rural connectivity projects, telehealth programs, and food hub efforts across the United States. The goal is to entice listeners to join the action cluster either as a contributor or an implementer who may be working on similar topics so they can help contribute and expand the use-case.
