Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.


Global City Teams Challenge Expo

Join the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and US Ignite on June 1 in Washington, DC for the Global City Teams Challenge Expo (GCTC) at the National Building Museum to see the future of Smart City / Internet of Things technology. 

US Ignite and NIST, with the help of their partners, will showcase new IoT technologies that are transforming decision making within a smart city / smart community environment here in the US and around the world. There will be 60+ teams exhibiting, keynotes from the US Secretary of Transportation, Deputy Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Netherlands Minister of Foreign Affairs, and participation by mayors from around the world all coming together to showcase their Smart City / IoT projects and initiatives.

The GCTC Expo Agenda includes:

    • Exciting keynotes by Anthony Foxx, US Secretary of Transportation,Thomas Kalil, Deputy Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, opening remarks by Willie May, Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology
    • A special session with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima from the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and a presentation by Bert Koenders the Netherlands Minister of Foreign Affairs
    • Participation and presentations from municipal leaders, including mayors from Austin, TX, Bandung, Indonesia, and San Jose, CA
    • Exhibitions from over 60 project teams – from cities such as Boston, MA, Denton, TX, Greenville, SC, Kansas City, MO, Madison, WI, Nashville, TN, Portland, OR, Seattle, WA and international cities including Bandung, Indonesia, Coruna, Spain, Tel Aviv, Israel and The Hague, Netherlands
